Default Dealer changing mid-hand

The other day I saw something I had never seen before. A dealer tapped into the box in the middle of a hand! First dealer delivered the cards and handled the flop. Second dealer comes in to deal the turn and river.

I can see very little benefit in a procedure like this, but a lot of negative. If there is any additional hands per hour gained by the procedure, they will be obliterated when there is a beef that could have been solved by the original dealer.

I was told that this was a new procedure, and was not an isolated incident. It happened several times during my session.

It does allow the dealer to possibly reach the break room a minute earlier. Is this worth the hassle?

The casino was one of the "Bay Area" clubs.

Any thoughts from some of our dealers here?
