Doesn't surprise me.
Although I played at the G.S. a couple times within the last couple months or so and didn't have any problem with the air and nobody else was complaining.

The two coldest poker experiences I've had have been at the Grand, especially during the WSOP-C. And at the Rio in LV during the WSOP where I could barely handle my cards and chips. 116 degrees outside. REALLY freezing inside. Everyone was complaining.

The other good reason for renting a car, is Sams Town, which has a fairly decent poker room, and they runs some pretty good tourneys as well.

It's quite a distance away from the other hotels, and if they do have a shuttle, it doesn't run very often.

Also the room rates there are very cheap, but the rooms are clean and up to date. Thus, if you stay at Sams Town, you'll need a car to get to the other properties.

I haven't played the Sam's Town tourneys. But from the ads I've seen the juice on those things is the worst in Tunica.

They might be better during the WSOP-C as there may be some spill-over of players all the way down to there too. Not sure.
But if he's coming to Tunica specifically for the WSOP-C then I'm thinking that the $35+$15's or whatever it is at the Grand is not going to be as attractive.

Most people on here, including me, would recommend not bothering at all with ST as opposed to just sticking with the 'main three' of Horseshoe, Gold Strike and Grand.

I have to ask here, if ppl are making money in the event, why does everyone get so upset about the juice taken by the hosting casino?

Seconded on sam's town -- I've hit it twice driving through from ohio to oklahoma this year just because my parents recommended it. I hadn't read that horseshoe / gold strike had better card rooms at the time -- I will try them next trip but really I wouldn't have a problem just going back to ST on a quick drive by trip.

I finished up quite a bit both times playing 3/6 and 4/8. There were some locals at the table of course, and dealers from other rooms but there were also quite a few tourists and the games were plenty loose.

The rooms were cheap ($55 during the week) big / clean etc. The buffet was good and the poker room comped $2.50 an hour.

cincy lady - I don't understand your question.
What do you mean if people are 'making money in the event'?

Do you mean that it's all okay if they pay-out more money than they take in? Well, a $50+45 is not as good as a $50+10.

Some of ST's tourneys have some really bad juice compared with some other tourneys around Tunica.

To amplify the response to CincyLady, there's a certain point at which the vigorish becomes so horrible that the tournament is theoretically unbeatable. Even if 33% isn't quite there, it's still far far worse than the 10% or so that's standard for online, so you'll win less when you win.

But to the point about ST: I asked the crowd at the Horseshoe if anyone knew the breakdown on the ST $50 tournaments, and of course no one did. But they did point out that they're usually "money added". Doesn't the $500 "promotional money" transferred from the BBJ to the prize pool somewhat make up for the outrageous vigorish?

yes, it certainly would.
I forgot that many of the tourneys list 'money added' in there so those obviously wouldn't be very bad at all.

They probably aren't bad if you're in the mood for a smallish tourney. Don't know how fast the structure is though.
I think there are better rooms and their cash-game stakes are usually pretty small.

I personally don't think it's worth renting a car just to get to ST but if you're staying at the grand I do think it is worth renting a car for travel to Horseshoe/Gold Strike and also for a potentially cheaper commute to the airport.

Maybe I'm just not giving ST a fair-enough shake though. Been awhile since I've played there.
