Acquired last night, listened non-stop since.

I'm very, very, very impressed so far. Flashes of absolute briliance, quite a bit of progression for the band.

Full review will need a few more listens, but I'm really impressed so far. But I loved Picaresque too.

I have no idea what the accent is, but

1) it's not irish. listen "waning" and "raining." how the hell is that irish? they're sharp, clear, whining, and basically everything an irish accent is not. meloy typically will always emphasize his long vowels, which you'd really never hear in an irish accent. I imagine he would say "tomayto" and "baysil."

2) your original complaint of the irish accent came after listening to less than 2 tracks. why don't you then go through those tracks and tell me where you get the irish accent?

I searched for, on google: colin meloy "irish accent". I got 16 hits, only one of them relevent. I made the same search with decemberists replacing colin meloy. 207 hits, and again, only one relevant search - the same one. that search complained about meloy adopting an irish accent on some of the tracks on their first album, but says it's gone by their second.

I like the album thus far imo but his voice is certainly a turn-off, if only for the fact that when you listen to him you feel like a 13-year old girl with a razor at your wrist.
