I didn't exactly propose we should all go rushing to play there.

If you think you can win more there, as long as you remain vigilent and are a bit quicker to quit when you are losing then normal, I say go for it.

[ QUOTE ]
i don't think representing this scandal as AP stealing from its customers for its direct benefit is an accurate description of what happened.

A person high up in the company, possibly (probably?) an part owner abused a hole in the software he either created or found. Absolute, as a company, didn't steal from me.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it is an accurate description, seeing as how Scott Tom owns the company, Absolute Poker, and still does. If you say the company stole from you, then it implies it is the owner who received the money the company stole, and vice versa. I could understand if Scott Tom didn't own the company, or maybe even if he no longer owned the company, but in both cases he does.

"You are not going to put them out of business regardless. And it is still not clear whether they deserve it or whether that would be in the best interests of internet poker in general."

it might not be in the best interests of internet poker because of government regulation or scrapping a proposed carve out for online poker specifically. i assume thats what your meaning here?

I agree with the OP so far as he accepts that "being in a situation where breaking the rules is in the interest of the self" count as understanding of why the scandal occurred, but does not excuse it.

If you are saying that you understand why "they" cheated, that's fine. If you want to extend that to lessening the punishment or the voracity in which people are uncovering the truth and demanding recourse, then I disagree. It's understandable but not excusable.

Like many Sklansky posts it doesn't say some things people want to hear, while saying some things people won't hear.

I don't get the hate for this post even if you wouldn't say some of the things the same way.

Many of the posts seem to have come from people who didn't seem to realize I said this. Obviously if Absolute owners are thieves instead of clowns and a two plus two boycott would put them out of business, I would be all for it. As it is, I didn't exactly propose we should all go rushing to play there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mr. Slansky,

I realize that you are not advising anyone to play there, and even deterring people to avoid the site by explaining that cheating can still easily go on there. What I had a problem with was you saying there is no way to boycott Absolute Poker. Also, I can't see how you're not sure if Absolute Poker's owners are thieves or clowns.

Lets look at what we know:

Scott Tom is (still) the owner of Absolute Poker
Scott Tom stole money from players on Absolute Poker,

Now add 2 and 2 together:
The owner of Absolute Poker stole money from players on Absolute Poker.

I'm pretty sure that means the owners of Absolute Poker are thieves, as well as clowns.

OK, Cliffs Notes:

People cheat.
Then they lie about it.
But magical software can catch them.
But Absolute doesn't have that software.
Conclusion... uh... go play at Absolute.

Nice line, DS.

I think what Slansky was trying to say, without actually having to come right out and say it, is that (regardless of ethical and moral quandries) it's up to the player to decide, but if he does decide to play there he's retarded.
