Default $20/40: Sticking w/plan on bad river card.

Hi all,

First posting in this forum, doesn't really know if 6-handed online tables constitutes short-handed.

Anyway, $20/40 6-handed online. One limper, I raise with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], the big blind and the limper calls.

Flop is: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Checked to me, I bet, the big blind checkraises, other player folds and I decide to just call (will reraise here 60-70%).

Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. He bets, I call.

River: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. He bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I fold.

Okay?

Raising the river once the spade falls is thin. Too thin, I think.

Actually, yeah, I think I agree with this.

Any particular reason for deciding to raise the river instead of the turn?

Also, I'm flatcalling once the 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] hits, it's no good for us both from str8 and flush angles.

I normally prefer to just 3bet the flop or raise the turn.

Considering that the board is fairly drawy quite a few turn cards will be scary so I'd raise this flop.

Seems fine to me as long as itīs not a pattern you use often. I think he easily bet-call river often enough to raise on the end even though the 3s isnīt the best card. A nine is probably the only thing I dont raise.

The turn 6 is a potential deal breaker if you were planning on raising the turn. The turned 6 combined with the rivered spade makes raising a mistake in my opinion.

Seems like MHUSH took a turn to the weak tight side. I think I raise this turn since he won't pay off the river with a draw.

I think you have two viable options here. My preferred line is to play it fast and 3bet. Your opponent is likely to put you on overcards and is likely to call down liberally with a flopped pair, and may even keep raising with a hand like A9. Also, the board is so low that he may running a bluff at you with overcards to the flop that you have completely crushed even if they hit like QJ, JT, etc.

The second viable option is to just call the flop and pop the turn. The flop is draw heavy, so there's a good chance your opponent is semi-bluffing. By playing your hand in this manner, you make it very expensive for the semi-bluffer.

By waiting for the river to raise as you did, you allowed the draws to draw cheaply, and won't get any value out of your raise if they missed their draw, but do lose an extra bet if they hit their draw on the river.

Just my opinion...
