Default June\'s \"Beaches & Sunsets\" thread

This is the designated thread for low content posts. Any random stuff you want to talk about, moan about, be happy over, vent about and so on, but not significant enough to start a thread about, you can post here. There's no restrictions, so make it as long or short as you like.

I tried to quit smoking last week. Almost made it to the end of day three but then I caved. Day two was the day of the Lost season finale. The restlessness from the withdrawals seriously detracted from my enjoyment of the episode. In fact, I normally would not have tried to quit during this period since I knew this might happen. However I woke up gasping for breath last Tuesday morning so I figured that might mean it's time to quit.

I'm pretty sure the reason I was gasping for air was because I was choking on vomit (small mouth-puke amount). I awoke freaking out because I couldn't breathe and ran to the bathroom. I remember splashing water on my face and in my nostrils, spitting and hacking all the while. I must have been scared because I recall asking God for help.

I went back to bed immediately and wasn't entirely sure the next morning if it was just a dream or if this really happened.

In addition to the smoking I have also been drinking too much. For the first time in my life I am starting to think that maybe I can't 'quit anytime I want'. Am I an alcoholic or is my beer consumtion just a product of boredom and a lack of discipline (like eating too much sweets)? Eh- who cares.

My 20 year class reunion takes place August 4th. Can't really say I'm too excited about it. For the most part, everyone that I want to see I am in contact with anyway. Plus I am not aware of any attractive girls that attended my high school being available. I was reasonably popular in school which makes things even more difficult as I have not accomplished anything meaningful. I realize that people are more interested in talking about themselves and their families but I am dreading having to answer the "what have you been up to" type questions.

A friend of mine is having a party that day at which a minimum of two girls I have a shot with will be. Plus my brother, sister-in-law and many other people I care about, and that I only see a few times a year, will also be in attendance. I am seriously considering going to his place instead.

I sure do wanna spend some time in Moscow. I have a friend that moved back there a few years ago. He's constantly hounding me to come visit. I'll bet once I got settled in I wouldn't want to come home. Vodka, pyelmennie, hot easy girls and Party Poker. But my brother and his wife are expecting a second child in September. And my parents are not getting any younger. I really wish I didn't like my family and friends so much.

The charity poker games in Michigan are now offering the check raise option, which was intitally prohibited. Between that and the high rake, I have not spent any time playing them. But between their proximity and the fishy play, coupled with the rule changes and supposedly better dealers, the opportunity is becoming too great to pass up. The only problem is that I have never really played live NL hold 'em. I'm not concerned with the tactical adjustments; what worries me is the confrontational aspect of stacking people that can't afford the loss. Wiping out some punk that thinks he's the next PA is no issue. However I'd really feel crappy to see the sad, empty eyes of the good-natured sucker- or the retired degenerate that doesn't have a pot to piss in- after all of their $$$ gets pushed my way. I imagine that the bitter resentment I will experience after the first 4-outer gets me will balance things out though.

Speaking of West Michigan...

This is a fantastic place to be in the summer. A lot of people (some who only live a few hundred mile away) are completely ignorant to what nice beaches we have on this side of Lake Michigan. Wide and sandy, they can pretty much hang with anyplace when the weather cooperates. The water gets into the 70's too, which is something California can't boast about. It's really fun when the wind picks up and the waves start kicking.

Hey DFR,

First, Dr Sniper suggests Ritalin

So, what have you been up to for the last 20 years?

To speed me up or slow me down? Keep in mind that it probably took me an hour to concoct all of that self-indulgent, rambling nonsense.

It's kinda funny you should mention that though...

I'm friends with a young lady that works as an escort. (No, I'm not a customer.) Apparently she uses the bulk of her take to support her Ritalin habit. She insists Ritalin would be an excellent pathway for overcoming my distaste for multi-tabling any longer than 4 minutes at a time. Alledgedly there are no heart palpatations which are typically featured with other forms of speed.

Early evening perky and charming deflection reply: "Awwwww, I don't want to put you to sleep with all of that ! I'm sure your life is far more interesting. So... tell me 'bout what you've been up to!"

Late evening tired and buzzed 'I give up' reply: "Not much man. You?"

My college girlfriend's family had a place at a resort in Ludington. I never went though.

Skunks! I HATE skunks!

Last night I let the dogs out for their last potty break of the night before bedtime and all hell breaks out. Once again the darn things have a skunk trapped. Both dogs got sprayed. The wiener dog got the worst of it this time. Had to give them both baths, which helped some but not totally, and the outside reeked as it drifted into the house as well. So all night spent smelling skunk while trying to sleep!

Fun ending to the night!
