Check especially if you are going to bet/fold.

He probably thinks you would raise a Q and a FD on the flop. He also never calls you with worse. Giving him a free card is worth it.

Bet fold sucks, checking behind and bet calling do not suck

I probably tend to check behind.

with plan to do what to a 3b?

unless your opponent is very spewy in spots like this, i.e. crai Ahx, theres nothing else you can do but check it back
