Default modding the busiest forums

I was going to post this in the assani thread as it pertains to that to some degree wrt some mods getting jaded/burnt out/out of touch.

I think it's been noted that for busy forums, mods sometimes just get burnt out. It happened with [censored] for his first stint in OOT, and it's happened recently with Gild and 4Lyfe. Sometimes the constant aggravation gets too much, it appears.

And I for one would hate to see the current 4Lyfer mods getting burnt out too, for example, and want to see Dids, CC and 4_2_it around for a long time to come, but it's entirely possible they too might get burnt out over time.

I think for the busier forums it might be worthwhile considering something like a rota of modding. Two months on, one month off type of deal. That may also let the mods get back in touch with the fun of posting in these forums when they aren't responsible for examining each post etc.

This is just an idea, and not, IMO, something to be foisted on any mods, but an idea that they might want to consider and decide for themselves. I do think it might be a healthier for all involved to get a little respite in a planned way though.

maybe you if you feel refreshed?

Actually not sure, maybe NT for a guest spot, or one of the strat mods who like and get 4Life, and have thick enough skin to deal with the asshats? Wook maybe? Tuq? El D?

I bet there's a few wouldn't mind doing it for a week or a month or whatever.

I think the mods in the forum are the best judges to pick replacements. I'm under no illusions I would be asked to do it, so I'm obv not a candidate. That's not why I posted this. I posted it cos I want to see the current mods around for a long time in 4Life, actually.

Sure Dids, I think you guys are the best judges. I just thought it's better maybe to plan breaks than get to a point where it's driving you nuts.

i think it wouldn't be a bad idea for more mods to have a sort of secondary or support role in a few other forums that they read frequently. i was very glad to get yeti back in OOT, and would happily hand out mod powers to someone like el diablo or 4_2it just to quietly help out. i would gladly do the same in any forum that i read regularly.

i do think that in most cases these forums need a person who is 'in charge,' whether or not they actually dictate how things go or are just more visible than others. it might be interesting to have one of these forums with no real lead mod as an experiment, but i'm not sure it would work.

i would love for the other mods take more control over OOT, whether it be visibly or not. in general, i think having more inter-forum cooperation and sharing of duties between off-topic mods would be good for the cohesion of those forums, but there's not the degree of trust and shared vision that i would look for to just give blanket authority at this point.

Aren't there trusted veteran posters in those heavy-traffic forums, that perform as "ghost mods" on their own, to notify the official mods of various crap?

That should take enough of the load off of the mod work. Additionally, the regulars in a forum are more likely to have a good feel for what's "acceptable"

To some extent, that's what I was doing in HP, when AJ was the only mod there.

Maybe there are people who can be approached in the hot forums, to help out?
