You know when you are playing shorthanded, it's folded around to you on the button and you open raise with something semi marginal like KTo or A7o and there is a guy sitting in the big blind who you are PRAYING doesn't call? You are thinking, "please just fold and let me take down this small pot without a fight." You don't want this guy to defend because he's f'ing good and f'ing aggressive and you know it's gonna be a bumpy ride and you will be put under pressure post flop if he plays. It's not gonna go; raise, call, check, bet, fold. He's the type of player that is that dangerous it just makes you miserable and you end up kind of "giving up" and not trying to steal his blind without something very decent, it's just too hard and always seems to end up getting very expensive. You end up folding the turn thinking "why did I even bother?"

This book teaches you to be the guy in the big blind; that's probably the best way I can sum up the style of play it espouses.

I have started it. I find it very good and was enjoying it very much but once the shorthand book arrived in the mail, everything else was put on the back burner. I will not be able to return to the advanced book until after I have finished a thorough reading of the shorthand book. Having said that, what I have read was very good. I'm really impressed with everything I have ever read from D&B. I think 2+2 is probably lucky they (D&B) haven't been around long and haven't published that many poker books! Yes, that's it. It is a limit book, I suppose we should make that clear to anyone looking to buy it so as to avoid disappointment. If you are a NL player, I wouldn't bother. The idea that any pair goes to showdown heads up is probably going to get you into quite a bit of trouble and lose you quite a lot of money playing NL.
