It depends on whether you're playing on Absolute poker or anywhere else in the universe. Please see this thread in the stud forum for details.

If both players at the end have a pair it then becomes a 4 card game and whoever has the lowest of the 4 cards win.

i play on pokerstars.

aces are always low.
best 5 card low wins; doesn't have to be 8 or better.
Pairs count against you.
flushes and straights don't.

SGSpecial is correct; Absolute poker has it wrong.
