yeah, and it wasn't a US Senator, it was a mayor's aide. Also, the guy later returned to the mayor's office after the misunderstanding was cleared up.

It only sounds similiar if you're American and have corrupted the word. The correct pronunciation is French - ren-ayge.

We're a pretty good group of people to change that then - if every 2 + 2'er starts pronouncing it properly, soon the whole world will change! I already semi-persuaded my old boss (Swedish, but lived in Vegas for a few years) to switch over. It's not like we don't use lots of French words already - rendezvous, blonde, deja vu, brunette, chic, cuisine, etc etc.
