At least I caught Don Rickles in the Wayne Newton Theater on one of my two trips to Vegas some years back. After that show, I determined that the WNT was if fact the hottest man-made place I have ever been, eclipsing the local laundromat in the summertime.

The name Montreux comes from the famed Swiss resort which sponsors the yearly Montreux Jazz Festival.

The New Frontier will close and be demolished in December of 2006 and the new resort will most likely open in 2009 along with many other large projects.

Now somebody please implode Circus Circus!

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought I heard that it was marked for implosion in the next few years, but I can't confirm it. I think I would make it to Vegas just to cheer when that place goes down.

As for the Stardust, I'm happy that I had the chance to play there. Unfortunately, Rickles wasn't in town at the time.

That's rumored at this time, nothing confirmed because MGM Mirage is working on City Center atm.

You say "implosions", and these stories leap to mind. Here's all I know about casino implosions.

--I watched the Sands come down. I was standing in Harrah's parking garage. A few seconds after the Sands hit the dust, the shockwave hit us, and the garage started bouncing. That was no fun. The cloud of dust was heading our way, so we all split.

--I was driving east on Flamingo, headed toward the Strip. When I saw the Aladdin off in the distance, I thought to myself, "They're blowing that up today, aren't they?" My eyes went back to the traffic. When I looked up at the Strip again, a few seconds later, the Aladdin was gone. My neighborhood (Arville, behind the Gold Coast) would be covered with a quarter-inch of dust by the end of the day.

--With implosions becoming trendy, somebody asked the late Ralph Englestad if he had plans of blowing up the dumpy Imperial Palace. "We're 98% full every night. Why would I want to blow it up?"

--Harrah's has since purchased the IP. If they ever decide to try to implode that one, I want to be there to see it. Every wall in every building on that property is a foot thick. The place is a fortress. It would take a nuclear device to have a chance of bringing that thing down.

I can't even begin to tell you the amount of sadness I have for the closing of the Stardust. Why couldn't they implode the Frontier instead?!!!

Being in construction, I have seen the plans for the new Fontier....it is not long for this world either...

Matt

Wish I could be at the auction, but am too busy that week to visit Vegas.

I went to the Stardust tonight and here are some observations:

1. Casino itself was extremely busy
2. Employees were having a blast, more like a party.
3. Customers were in a very somber mood, some were even crying (lol)
4. Poker room managers seemed like they coudlnt' wait to turn off the lights.
5. Tried to purchase some chips at the cage. Limit of 5 of any denomination. NO Silver inlayed dollars were allowed to be sold, but you could get them in 5's and up.
6. Poker room had 5 games going, 3/6, 1/2 NL and 1-5 stud. Seemed like every player knew everyone by name in there. The room looked a lot fuller than it was because there were just quite a few people sitting around on the empty games chatting. There was open seating everywhere except a list for NL with 15 minutes left to the room closing.

7. I heard so many different closing times tonight that I had no idea wtf was going on. Poker room was 10pm for sure. Other employees and players are talking about 10pm everything shuts down, midnight, 12:01am, 9am, noon tomorrow, ect.. No one seemed to know whats up including the employees.

I'll post some links to pics shortly.

I'll miss that place. Probably stayed there as many times as all other hotels combined in the last 25 years.

I was at the Stardust tonight for the last few hours of poker. I got some good stories and recorded the last hands ever played there in razz, stud, limit hold 'em, and no-limit hold 'em. I'll be writing an article for the November issue of the Two Plus Two Internet Magazine.

Ray Zee will also have an article about how he got his start at the Stardust when he moved to Las Vegas.
