Never played NL live before- winrates?
Hi,
I posted this in the Beginners fourm but only got one reply. Sorry if this has been done to death. I searched but found nothing. Assuming 25 hands per/hr an online winrate of 7.5 PT bb's per 100 would only garner 7 or 8 bucks an hour at $1/$2 NL. After tips this is pretty much reduced to nothing. From the stories I've read around here my math is obviously flawed. The fishiness of live play must compensate for fewer hands and no rakeback/bonuses. So what kind of a return can a competent player expect in the typical 1/2 NL game? TIA. |

Re: Never played NL live before- winrates?
Expect anywhere from $10-$25 per hour (after tips) depending on fishiness of the game, rake structure, and minimum buy-in.
In the Bike's 80NL game with 1-3 blinds, I averaged $16/hr over about 130 hours. Small sample size, I know, but it's just to give you an example. Larger minimum buy-in levels, of course, will mean deeper stacks and higher winrates. |

[/ QUOTE ] Actually PT bb's for no limit are 2x the big blind, so that would be $15/100 hands. Assuming you can get 60-70 hands/hour consistant, would be about 10 or 11/hour in profit. Excellent 1/2 NL players can earn up to about 15/hour over the "long run" . This is not saying you can't have multiple consecutive days of 1k profits in 5 hours. But it's not sustainable. |

I don't think there is any way that you can extrapolate hourly expectations based on someone else's claim of what they earn per hour. We all know that players exaggerate and I personally know many players who have told me of a big winning streaks and then I see them asking to borrow money from someone. Playing live is a much different proposition than playing online. Online you can get the statistics that you need but live you just need to go to your casino and play and see if you can be successful. If you can you will know it soon enough. Bankroll management and picking the right games are the most important parts of this. Play live for a while and if you are good you won't care a whit about expected winnings per hour. If you are just struggling to get by then every dip and every bad streak with tear you up. |

[/ QUOTE ] I consider myself a mediocre NL cash game player (for instance, I've tried it online for a month and didn't even have a winning month). I'm mainly a tourney player online, but I have about a $17/hr winrate at 1/2 over 84 hours of play in my little "B&M record" spreadsheet. Not bad. Some of the players are, really, really, bad, and you can learn to avoid the good ones. For me at least, it's easy to remember faces instead of screen names. I just switch tables/go home when the table turns tough. |
