High Roller:the Stu Ungar story
Just got this through NetFlix & watched it. I enjoyed the movie quite a lot...I don't know if it's technically a good movie (although I think it's safe to say Michael Imperioli is a darn fine actor)....I don't know if I would have enjoyed the movie had I not been a poker player or been interested in Stuey...but - since I am - I did enjoy it.
What a completely insane life...I can't even imagine. ****SPOILER**** The scene where he calls out every card in Pat Morita's gin-rummy hand after only 4 discards, from a card playing perspective, is probably the most captiviating moment in the film. The movie really made me realize that there are some people who just operate on levels that I'll never experience. On the other hand - it also made me thankful that I pretty much have my head straightened on tight - and I'm not THAT addicted to "the action". |

Re: High Roller:the Stu Ungar story
My thoughts are the exact opposite. I hated everything about this movie from poker to Michael Imperioli. :/

captain,
I thought this was in the running for worst movie I've ever seen. I can't think of a single thing about it that didn't suck. |

I guess I won't apply for that job as movie critic then....

Re: High Roller:the Stu Ungar story
As a movie it was very unspectacular, but the content interested me enough so that I didn't mind.

Re: High Roller:the Stu Ungar story
This is without a doubt one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
The Gin scene with Pat Morita was entertaining, though. |

[/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] A Night at the Roxbury can't be considered the worst movie of all time, since it had no potential. It starts so low and is about such a stupid concept that no matter how bad it is/could be, it wouldn't be the worst movie of all time. That's why I consider "The Day After Tomorrow" the worst movie of all time. It sucks on every possible level, but the people that made the movie clearly tried to make a good/serious movie. I never thought anything would beat Final Destination as my all time worst movie, but The Day After Tomorrow smoked it! Sorry for the thread-derailing. I liked the movie, but it definitely could have been better. I find the personality/talent of Stu Ungar so interesting that it probably compensated for the bad parts of the movie. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, Shade was alot worse then High Roller. I think one of the quotes from Shade referred to the game as "Unlimited Texas Hold em". Why is it so hard to make good poker movies? |
