I love doing this actually. What you do is fly in, and have an extra long session the first night. If you survive the first night, the rest of your trip should go well. I sleep during the day and when you hit the tables around 7-8 pm you will be right in the thick of the action all night.

The secret comes around 3-6 a.m. when everyone else hits the wall or is at the peak of their drunkeness and you are still able to focus and start hitting the tables for some big pots.

You will hit the bed around 7-10 a.m. and rinse and repeat as needed.

IF the trip is about poker and not about partying, g.f.'s, or other extra-curriculars, this to me is by far the best strategy and now you know my secret.

I rented a car so I had a place to put my bags

What's wrong with checking bags at the bell desk?

Works for some. Some don't want strange men handling our bags.
