Default Vegas: Not Getting a Room your First Night in Town

Situation: Fly in late Wednesday Night, 11pm or later.

Have you ever not paided for a room that night and simply stayed up and played. Then checked into a room Thursday.

How early have you been able to check in? What is your overall experience with this?

Havent stayed up all night before to save on the cost of a room, however I have checked in as early as 10am.

I would think mid-day is very doable in most resorts.

Checked in early at the Mandalay Bay and Palms, also mid-week. Played poker all night, hit the wall for the next day after checking in..slept all day unfortunately. It's a wednesday night, shouldn't cost too much to pony up for an extra night.

Contemplated this exact plan several times. Everytime I come to the conclusion that money saved from one less hotel (week)night < value lost from playing lousy poker on little sleep.

I have never done this, but it would be very possible for me. Not because of poker playing, but because of drinking and not going to bed. Last time in Vegas, I got up for work at 6am on Friday, and got to Vegas about 10:30 or 11pm. Started drinking as soon as we got checked in, and didn't go to bed until 2pm on Sat. Then got up at 7pm on Sat, played some sober poker for 4 or 5 hours, then started drinking again, and stayed up all night drinking, then thought it would be good to go play poker drunk, and sobered up while playing, then wandered around, and finally got to bed around 1am on Monday. I kicked my bodies ass that weekend.

I do this almost every trip to vegas, it works well but getting stuck right away sucks when you dont really have much else to do, the benches in the forum shops are pretty comfortable for a good 2 hour early morning nap tho... only bad part is much shadier people are also doing the same (not sure why they dont clear it out more) and its a lil weird with $4-5k in your pocket

I used to do this in college quite frequently.

The only real pitfall you gotta watch for is that if your first session upon gettin' into town turns out to be really crappy, you (if you're like most human beings) will be less inclined to wanna play until you can check in.

This isn't really a huge issue as 1) the odds of a truely crappy session are fairly low and 2) you can always just play lower or even find ways to blow off some time in Vegas.

As far as checkin' in, it depends on the day of the week. Typically, Sat., Sun., and to a lesser degree Mon. and Fri. will be toughest to check in early. But I imagine only under odd circumstances would you not be able to check in prior to 9 or 10.

Why not just buy a nice condo when you get there. Offer a few dollars for anything near the strip and you'll probably get it. Soon, they'll be free.

Used to do this in A.C. all the time. Worked well, but I was just there for poker. If you're there to party and want to enjoy yourself, then don't go cheap.
