Just let him be.

I really liked the Psychology of Poker a lot.

Tell him that I said, "Nice job on the book."

Tell him you don't want to be interested in this forum anyway.

I hear psychologist fall for reverse psychology every time.

Very professional and businesslike, makes me want to do business with you in the future if I was a potential investor, backer or wahtever reading these forums anonymously.

You sound like a pissed off 17 year old.

You sound like you don't understand sarcasm.

Do you have a link to any of the dissertations? I've always considered forum sociology a fascinating topic.

No, that's why I said "I was told" this. I used to live near a University and I did check the abstracts once, but couldn't find anything. Then I realized how many disciplines it could be under and gave up. Haven't Googled it in a few years, ought to go do that now that so much is on the 'net compared to ten years ago. It is interesting, though. When I took Primatology in college I spent some days observing at the zoo, they had a nice outdoor habitat for capuchins and it used to remind me of forum behaviors - you know, Alpha Males, even Alpha females on some boards.

What is Al's login name? I read both of his books, enjoyed both of them, and came here to search for his posts, but have no idea where and/or how to find them.

click Search (up the top of the page), type 'Al Schoonmaker' in the Username Search box, select whatever date range you're looking for.

It's a been a few years since I was in the industry, but I think the first major treatment was Community Building on the Web by Amy Jo Kim.

I'm always open to feedback on the site and what encourages/discourages posters.

[/ QUOTE ]

These forums are 100% of what you make of them. But one thing really bugs me: the load of people with less than 300 posts who come into someone's strategy thread and all they have to say is "Oh god, that is so bad. PM your screenname on the site you play." and think they actually made a good point. I think there should be a forum rule that rewards this behaviour with insta-account-deletion.

Since Al writes in his books that rudeness and impoliteness tilts him, I can see why he could severly dislike a lot of what is going on in the threads here. I just read one thread where a poster had nothing better to do than offending someone that he should learn to write, because that someone forgot one "get" in his post. He wasn't even the OP or subject to critique or anything. I'm growing extremely tired of these kinds of post. Seriously.
