I'm more entertained watching Greenstein play than watching Farha or Eli, but I'm probably the minority.

Nope, you're not in the minority. I'm sure most 2+2ers would prefer to watch Bear weave some magic rather than Sammy going all-in in the dark one too many times.

Is it hopeless to gain any "skills" from this show?

You can't gain skills by watching any TV poker for 2 reasons.

1. It's edited. They only show a tiny percentage of hands played, and those they do show are selected for entertainment value and thus are usually oddly played hands.

2. You see all the hole cards. Regardless of how objective you think you can be, any analysis you make of the hand is tainted because you see everybody's cards.

Poker on TV is for entertainment, period.

Yep, you are in bad shape if you count on learning poker from TV.
There is a reason why it is called a poker show and not a poker instructional video and the reason is pretty obvious.

Anyway, I like HSP and I will watch it as long as they are willing to make shows.

These guys are playing with 300-1500BB stacks. This allows for a ton more creativity than 100-200BB stacks. Callin raises from the SB with 52s is horrendous if you only have 100BB effective stacks, but with these stacks...you can pretty much do what you want if you think you can outplay a guy...and you always seem to have the implied odds.

(i hate to make generalities, maybe some ppl can play 52s for a raise effectively with 100BB stacks and good reads...but it just has to be light years better with deep/deep/deep stacks)
