Default NL with a Cap...thoughts?

Anybody play this?... Likes?... Dislikes?

I assume if you play with a cap then you don't need to set a maximium buy in?

It wouldn't be NL if you had a cap. Maybe you should try Pot limit holdem it sounds like what you are looking for.

Pot limit will quickly increase the pot to NL levels and the bets will become very large. Capped NL is a decent game as long as the cap is high enough to allow good action.

I was thinking of a structure that would be fun but not ruin someone's night.

No Limit - Capped $5.00

$40 Buy-in

.25/.50 Antes

Would anyone play this?

You underestimate the dangers of PL. It's often more expensive than NL.

And uncapped big-bet games can be very, very dangerous for a home game's survival. Tread carefully.

Are you saying that the bet is capped at $5.00 (in which case stop calling it No Limit, its spread limit) or the pot size.

I would consider the spread limit game an acceptable option, but not a pot cap of $5.00 thats way to small. One pot sized raise and a call would pretty much end the betting at that point.

In any event there is no reason to have a max buy-in to this game. The cap solves whatever issue you think requires a Max buy-in.

[/ QUOTE ]Wait, so what do people play then? I've just been doing tournaments, but was hoping to get a cash game going at some point as well. I figured we'd do NL HE (cause that's the only game anyone ever wants to play) with a capped by in of 100BBs. Are you saying, though, that you cap pots?

I've heard the big game at the Bellagio does that kind of thing, but no I think that's stupid.

Capped buy-ins are the way to go, unless you have an experience AND well-bankrolled group.

Depending on how adventurous your group is, you haven't played poker until you've been able to donk it up with The Hammer playing in a limit game....

The mechanics of a Pot Limit game are more complicated. I think it's too much trouble for a home game. Just limit the buy in for a NL game. And limit the rebuys.

Just have a minimum buy in of 50BB and max 100BB. Pick an amount that you know your friends can afford to lose 3 times without going crazy. Don't allow rebuys until someone has completely busted out.

Disagree only with this part. If you want to play a rebuy tourney, play a rebuy tourney.

Rest of your post, I like.
