Default LO8 hand. Input needed.

I was talking to a friend about this hand and we had very different views on how to approach this hand.

First couple hands, so no real reads.

Just wanted some input on Flop, Turn, and how to approach the river.

If you say take control, either on flop or turn, why?
If you take the same line as I did here, why?

I feel a flop raise is in order because you are likely ahead AND he will likely call given action up till then.

Regardless of flop action, turn looks like a c/c.

Why wasn't there a 3 bet on the flop? What hands are we significantly behind here?

Not going to give all of my input yet....

The answer to what hands are significantly behind here is Not much.

What I can say is that having 3 aces makes a huge difference imo and slimmed down his range quite a bit for me.

Not only does it make it less likely that he has a strong low draw, but it makes 35 much much harder to scoop.

If you do decide to 3-bet flop and he flat-calls. What do you do on the turn?

HU threads like this are seriously useless if you aren't including a read or at least general playing style of opponent.

Why? This seems like a good place to donk. I think we have good equity against an aggro player's range and want to deny him a free card.

I'm going to have to disagree.

I believe this isn't more of a what line to take approach, but more of the strategy and reasoning to take here. I think that this hand illustrates some key points.

Given that he didn't cap pre-flop, we can guess he doesn't have a great hand. In fact, he could be one of the guys who raises most of the time with the button, so he could have anything. When you raise pre-flop, he has to guess you have some kind of good two-way hand with A2 or A3. The flop comes with two low cards, and he still raises you, so he probably has at least a decent high. I think we have to credit him with at least 2-pair, in which case your equity won't be much above 50%, so no reason to raise. But even if he has a set, you still have decent equity, and raising couldn't be that big of a mistake because he might just be a maniac. After the turn, it is looking grim for the high, but just the low draw makes it worth a call getting 5-1. Even if the low doesn't come on the river, I would probably still check/call getting 6-1.

I like a bet and call if raised on the turn, and a crying check-call on any unfavorable river card, or a bet on any low or club, followed by a crying call if raised on a high club. I'm assuming that the pool of players at these stakes is not huge and that meta-game considerations are paramount.

Oh, and that these stakes I'm all in on the flop ;-)

agreed with donger. and if you are behind his hand range, it's not by much.

but if you bet on the turn and get raised, it's gotta be a huge mistake to fold on the river unimproved.
