Default tt against 42/7/2

all street appreciated. not sure if a call pf is ok. villian is in every pot but not raising much as you can tell. i raised the flop because i know hell c bet with overs and its not like i slow played kk here. ( not wa/wb imo). once called i feel like i should shut down on the turn and probably fold to a river bet.

$100, check river

if he's passive hes not check raising the turn lightly so $100 should suffice as a sort of reverse blocking / value bet.

I wouldn't describe the pot odds as "huge" here

a 40/7/2 is like never potting this river with anything TT beats. 87 is the only real draw that missed and he isn't raising that UTG. Looks like 77 more than anything actually.

Against a 42/7, raising the flop is bad and not shutting down after he calls is worse. I'd say his range is 80% AA/KK, 15% QQ/JJ/set, 5% bluff.

Pf call is obv standard.

I think a flop call is better IMO. He's only raising 7% of the time, maybe even less b/c he's UTG, so his range is real strong. The argument for raising to protect your hand from AK or AQ improving is silly b/c both hands only have 6 outs and are about 12% to improve on the turn.

Basically, would you raise with 98 on this flop against this player, b/c your hand is about as strong as 98 against his range. If I smooth called the flop, I would fold if he fired the turn again and bet 2/3 pot if checked to.

As played, check behind the turn. One of the problems with your flop raise is you didn't define his hand. You basically min-raised and set it up so he might call with AK, and you have no additional info. It's murky whether your hand is good or not and you will generally only get money in the pot when you're behind. This is a perfect example of reverse implied odds.

On the river, you're clearly beat and it's an easy fold.

is raising the flop THAT bad. he could easily have overcards even as a 42/7. after he calls the flop i should be done with the hand though...
