If this lady is still alive, and anything like my grandparents, I'd cash the check sipmly so that her stuff balances correctly. I had the bad habit of keeping checks in my wallet for months, and they hated that.

Also, if she took the effort, I think it's worth it to cash it. It's not that much work on your part.

It made that old lady feel good to write you that check.

I imagine she will feel the same when she sees that you cashed it.

Doctor the check to $500 or $5,000.

This is a no-brainer.

For scumbags, I mean.

Just frame the little check, and let it be some sort of reminder of something that you learned at some point sometime.

Maybe over time, it will become apparent exactly what it was that was learned.

yeah this is pretty much correct. Shes gunna spend hours trying to figure out why the [censored] her checkbook doesnt balance, cuz shes old and will forget she wrote you a $5 check.

Also, I really like whoevers advice it was to send flowers. Yes I realize that $5 wont cover it and you have to invest some time, but thats the kinda nice [censored] the world needs more of

Half way through the shift the old lady is long gone and we see paramedics rushing in, at first we have no idea what's going on but later find out it was the same lady who wrote me the $5 check who collapsed on the floor. The paramedics were there for at least an hour so I assume it was pretty serious.

[/ QUOTE ]

If the lady was already "long gone" from the bar, why would the paramedics later come rushing in for her?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because it's a big casino

How will she know that her check book is not balanced if she doesn't know what checks she has written? This is a sort of serious question, I never knew what it ment to balance a checkbook. I have never not had online banking so when i buy something the money is subtracted from my account. The laws of addition "balance" my checkbook for me
so I never understood WTF people mean by this.

Checkbooks come with a little ledger where you record deposits and checks, so you can keep track of how much you actually have in the account. You should keep the figures up to date, but many people just record the check/deposit and do the totals later. That is "balancing your checkbook". Your numbers should match the statement the bank sends you. If they don't it's because either a check has not been cashed or your math sucks.

well ive never balanced a check book in my entire life so maybe what im saying is retarded, but little old lady gets her bank statement in the mail and it says she has $865 in her account, she breaks out her check book and it says she should only have $860, she figures shes made some math errors and has to add and subtract all her purchases and deposits over the last month to try and find it, but she keeps getting the same answer of $860. Since shes old and senile she gets frustrated until finally her heart gives out she colapses dead on the floor clutching her life alert.
