<nit>[ QUOTE ] You are now ignoring this user. You will no longer see the body of any of his or her posts. [/ QUOTE ] Instead of "their."</nit> [/ QUOTE ] You could well be right; but I'd question it. "Their" implies plural, and "His or her" keeps it singular, (as it is meant to be by the context), in my book. |

Re: Grammatical Error In Forum
Someone needs to pay another visit to their English teacher...
From the Dictionary, definition/usage of their: "(used after an indefinite singular antecedent in place of the definite masculine form his or the definite feminine form her): Someone left their book on the table. Did everyone bring their lunch?" Bottom Line: The use of "their" is grammaticaly appropriate following the use of the indefinite singular antecedent, "this user". ps... being a grammer/spelling nit on the Internet is counterproductive |

Did everyone bring their lunch?" Bottom Line: The use of "their" is grammaticaly appropriate following the use of the indefinite singular antecedent, "this user". [/ QUOTE ] Two things: -First of all, "their" is not right as an indefinite gender pronoun. Citing "the Dictionary" does not convince me otherwise. -Second, "his or her" is meh. Give me an old-school "his." -Third, come on, it's 2+2. It's not really indefinite gender, it's a guy. |
