I was watching Full Tilt 1K/2K earlier and the game was 4-handed. Gus Hansen, Erik1223, TexasLimitKing, and eastsideslim:

HAND 1

PREFLOP:
Two folds, eastsideslim open raises in the sb, Erik1223 calls.

FLOP:
Js Tc 3h
eastsideslim bets, Erik1223 calls.

TURN:
9s
eastsideslim bets, Erik1223 calls.

RIVER:
Ks
eastsideslim checks, Erik1223 bets, eastsideslim raises, Erik1223 calls.

eastsideslim shows As 6s and Erik1223 doesn't show.



HAND 2 (Im not certain of the suits on this one)

PREFLOP:
Erik1223 open raises in the CO, button folds, eastsideslim 3-bets in the sb, bb folds, Erik1223 calls.

FLOP:
Ac Qh 9h
eastsideslim bets, Erik1223 calls.

TURN:
Jd
eastsideslim bets, Erik1223 calls.

RIVER:
8s
eastsideslim bets, Erik1223 calls.

eastside slim shown K7 and Erik1223 shows A3.

Hand one is a bit more interesting as it seems like an easy bet/3-bet, since a Q has to raise. His check only really makes sense if he put him on a weakish made hand.

Hand two seems very standard, though I obviously think neverwin is being a little too loose preflop here.

1) Guess due to the dynamic and way other hands might have been played Neverwin thinks that if Erik is busted or might have a pair he might bet the river again. Otherwise bet/3bet is way better, but I guess he won't have him on a Queen and thinks his line offers more value.

2) Depending on the action before K7 might still be a little bit overplayed, but it really matters how the other hands developed... It's also a difference if it is K7o or K7s. Neverwin might have had a flushdraw and tried a 3rd bullet on the river. This might make way more sense than betting K7o on 3streets.. I mean it's still possible, maybe he thinks that Erik might fold a 9 or lower PP due to the dangerous board and action.

I doubt it's possible to judge their plays due to our very limited information. There are so many factors involved, we can't overlook the reasoning.

I apologize for posting such ridiculous hands.

Apparently I have a lot to learn since Neverwin played these hands in what I now know must be an obvious and uninteresting manner.

HAND 1:
I mistakenly thought that he should have bet the river because there are significantly more hands that will call than hands that will bet if checked to and that Erik1223 should virtually always raise with a Q on the river if bet into but virtually never 3-bet if checkraised. It seemed to me that the number of hands that would bet and call a checkraise would not offset these.

HAND 2:
I mistakenly thought that the river bet ill-advised. Neverwin very frequently fires 3 barrels in this spot regardless of the board and I am confident Erik1223 knows this and therefore his turn call very likely means that he is showing down unless maybe specifically a K or T hits the river.

Would any of you mind explaining why these plays were correct and/or where my thinking is flawed?

metagame and balancing one's play is too much of a factor in shorthanded games against fellow experts. sometimes you must 3 barrel even if it's likely you get called. sometimes you must c/r with the nuts even if bet-3 bet is a little better to keep from being bluffed as often on the river oop against a tough player and to set up future successful c/r bluffs against a fearless value better. it's all about hands that already happened and hands yet to come.

so in a vacuum these hands are uninteresting.
