Why soccer is the best sport for kids

Soccer is the best sport for kids who suck at sports since they can blend in and they pretty much never get put into a tough spot where they have to make an individual play. Unlike baseball where the whole game is a series of individual plays. So yeah, if your kid is awkward, stick him on the soccer field he might not find out his awkwardness until high school.

FWIW, the youth baseball teams I've coached aren't bad. The parents are more or less well mannered. I do hold a parents' meeting preseason and tell them that I'm the [censored] boss and they aren't, though. That helps.

Oh, also, when I played soccer it was pretty damn competitive. Moreso than baseball.

Because I'm sure you're a well-organized, even tempered coach. It's frightening how the parents reflect the demeanor of the coach.

Hmm, I think there's a correlation, but not that strong of one. The problem occurs when the coach doesn't handle the parents well. They need to understand that the coach controls what happens on the diamond and what he says goes unless the parents fear for the health of their children (i.e. kids throwing 120 pitches in a game in March).

Fortunately the Little League organization I work for gives the coaches a fair amount of control with the understanding that it will not be abused.

that's funny, i've seen plenty of kids get owned 1 on 1 on the soccer field. seriously, have you played soccer? i've coached youth soccer teams-- the weaker players don't blend in, even when the game is being played in disarray. if your kid is unatheltic, he's going to bet exposed no matter what sport he plays.

My friend's kid is in little league. When you go to see one of the games there, they hand out pamphlets with their "parents code of conduct" and all the rules. If you break them, you get tossed.

It seems to work very well.

Kinda sucks that we have evolved to the top of the food chain and are among the rarest of mammals in that we have this cool opposing thumb on our hands, yet most of the world worships a game that does not allow us to use that cool evolutionary item.

If the rest of the free world could afford helmets and shoulder pads there is no doubt they would be playing 'American' football imo.
