on trip in sweden (us computer) over voltage...
Brought one of my back up computers from united states, and my 30 and 20' dell along.
Bought some power cords at a ripped off price of $28-30 for each one, and tried out the computer first. It made a loud popping sound then some smoke came out and smelled nasty when I tried to power it up. Guessing my power supply died. Is it worth to repair, or should I get a new computer? If so, is their a special power cord or converter I should buy if the local power is all 200-250volts it seems and my computer says 115? T |

Re: on trip in sweden (us computer) over voltage...
Plugging a 115 into a 220 doesn't seem like a good idea. I did the same thing when I got to Sweden at first, but in my defense, I knew I was supposed to switch it over, but didn't. Just buy a new power supply, that is likely all that is [censored].

Re: on trip in sweden (us computer) over voltage...
All the power supplies I've ever bought have a little switch on the back for going between US and EU voltages. Not sure about PSUs from a major computer manufacturer like Dell, though.
