I just got outta San Clemente and went to Laguna. They say the fire on Pendleton is 10% contained but heading away from structures but all I could see from my deck was orange and smoke. Maybe I'm paranoid but I feel more comfortable.

NEW: FALLBROOK EVACUATION UPDATE
12:08 a.m. - Fallbrook is again undergoing mandatory evacuation, because fires that have started at Camp Pendleton have doubled back and are heading east toward the city, according to the sheriff's department.

Ja,
I just took the 5S from huntington to poway. At 12:30am or so the fire was just a couple hundred yards (for at least a mile) from the road, at around the immigration checkpoint. I think its blocked tonight, not too sure, I heard something on the radio about it jumping the freeway. Check sigalert.

del mar heights/ carmel valley reopened

[ QUOTE ]
As of 7:00 this morning, the Otay Mesa voluntary evacuation has been lifted.

Also, Del Mar Heights and Carmel Valley can be re-populated. This encompasses the following grid: south of the city limits, west of Rancho Santa Fe Farms, east of Interstate 5, north of Highway 56.

[/ QUOTE ]

My brother and I moved back in at midnight last night.

According to the Google Maps thingie :

Closure: Interstate 5 North
Total distance: 18.25 mi

Interstate 5 South is open from San Clemente to San Diego.

Northbound Interstate 5 remains closed between Highway 76 and Cristianitos Road due to the fire at Camp Pendleton. Traffic at the south end of the closure is being diverted to Camino del Rey to Old Highway 395 to Interstate 15.

Updated: 7:00 a.m. 10/24/07

So it looks like that detour will get you on the open part of the 15 maybe?

Ja,

If the 5/15 thing looks like a clustereff, you should consider I-8 east to El Centro/Brawley, CA 78 to Blythe, and US 95 straight up to Vegas. I get to Vegas via US 95 and it's a pretty desolate highway so traffic shouldn't be a problem. Caveat: I've never been on CA 78 between El Centro and Blythe to speak to the quality of the road but it's shorter than taking 8 east to Yuma.

Tuq,

The 8E is closed at Willows Road (Viejas exit if you know where that's at).

I just talked to my friend who's parents own a baller mansion at the top of Cielo, overlooking all the homes (err well in San Diego) that were burned around Del Dios and she still hasn't gotten the official world that her house is gone, although two nights ago her parents saw their house and fire in the same picture. I'd be surprised if right now you could even see her house from anywhere people are if the homes are still burning around that area. Crazy.
