Re: Poll: Who is worse Yang or Gold?
I voted for Gold.
I think the way Yang played was unorthodox compared to the other 8 at the final table, but that is what allowed him to win. He understood that HU he could not beat anybody post flop, and that is why you saw his massive pushes preflop with 'garbage'. He knew that if he flopped an ace with A6 or something he was going to probably call post flop bets, so he wanted to just get it in preflop and see if he won, the only thing being that his opponents didn't have the A7 or better and he would win. That's just me. Gold just seemed to be playing a donkament to him, although his ability to confuse players post flop with his schematics was well done, he is still more of a donk to me than Yang. |

Re: Poll: Who is worse Yang or Gold?
Some of what Yang was saying was that God had a purpose for him and the money. (He seemed committed to using some of the money to help others.) It is very common for Christians to believe that God orders their steps. If he had lost, I can pretty much guarantee he would not have cursed God. He would have trusted that it was simply not meant for him to win.

Some of what Yang was saying was that God had a purpose for him and the money. [/ QUOTE ] I'm a Christian and it makes me uncomfortable when people "praise the Lord" in the manner done by Yang and family. You also see this a lot from athletes. I think it happens because they come from a Christian environment that places a lot of emphasis on witnessing and believe that giving God the credit in public promotes the Gospel. Maybe it does, but I wonder. Having said that, from the little information given about Yang, it seems he is genuine and sincerely wanted to win for the good he could do with the money. If that's the case and his prayers to win were so he could do those good things, then the final result may be very good. He showed a lot of class after each hand and it appeared genuine to me. I don't question his Christianity at all, and it's quite possible being open about it will lead to good things later. |

Yang is by far a worse ambassador for the game and that is what concern me [/ QUOTE ] It could happen that Yang will be the best possible ambassador for the game. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't have anything against Phil Laak (for example) [/ QUOTE ] In Phil's defense, IIRC, the only time he did these ridiculous antics was at a WPT invitational and on Poker after Dark. He's never done it at a "real" tournament. [/ QUOTE ] I'm 95% sure this isn't true. I remember him doing his schtick when he was heads up against Johnny Chan at the end of a WSOP event. I believe it was the event where Chan won his tenth bracelet. |

Re: Poll: Who is worse Yang or Gold?
FWIW, Yang probably shouldn't be faulted for the fact that Phillip Hilm essentially handed him 20 million of the 135 mil on the table.

On pre-final table day, Scotty Nyugen handed Hilm a bunch of chips, and on final table day Hilm handed all of those chips and more to Jerry Yang. |
