Default Weak line?

No hand history, Villian just sat down a few orbits ago, I have never played with him before so no reads. $.5/1 Villian has $106 and I cover. Villian is on button and I'm in the small blind with two black nines. Folded to button who raises to $4, I reraise to 16, villian calls pretty quickly. anyone just call here and take a flop?

Flop- 8 8 6 rainbow, flop goes check check, should I have just led out here after reraising pre flop? turn is a 2, I check called 25. River was a 5 went check check. I know I lost value in this hand but wasn't sure the best way to play it. Thoughts?

No this is perfect. No lost value. NH. Some might say you should c-bet the flop but I like this a lot better. NH

Personally I bet the flop. If he flat calls then I reconsider my position but if his hand wasn't good enough to go over you preflop with the likely hands he's got beating you are 88,1010,JJ,QQ. There's alot more hands in his range that aren't beating you and I wouldn't want to let him hit a 6 outer.
