Default Wedding This Weekend...Buy a New Suit?

I am attending a wedding reception this week, but not the ceremony. Is wearing a suit a must? Last wedding I went to I was in, so I, of course, had a tuxedo and not an actual suit. I notice many people at the reception were just shirt/tie/slacks/dress shoes. Not to mention the fact that its starting to get disgustingly humid around here... Necessary to buy a new suit for this affair? Shirt/tie/etc...just fine? Thoughts?

No way; at the reception everyone should have their jackets off and be dancing, so nobody will notice if you don't have a jacket in the first place.

I got a wedding this weekend. I'm going to wear a dark grey suit. What are some good looking and appropriate shirt tie combos?

Think this color (although this is NOT the suit):

Note: I did not feel this was worthy of starting a new thread as there are plenty of threads about suits. So I did a mini-hijack instead.

Edit to add: I have a nice black button down. Would that work with a certain tie?

Any excuse to wear a suit I wear one, so yes, Id wear a suit.
w/ a gray suit, Id go with, pink shirt and white tie, or if you cant pull that off, red shirt, and a tie similar to this:

Call the best man or the groom and find out the level of formality. If it's casual or semi-formal you can get away without a suit. If it's formal, you need a suit. If it's black tie you need a tux (or dinner jacket as some would say).

Guys,

Weddings are an excellent opportunity to look good in a suit, see people you don't see often, drink for free, impress them and chase goosed-up women around if that's your thing. Nothing is a bigger confidence booster than looking good in a suit. You should feel comfortable dressed in a classic and stylish outfit (which doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg AT ALL.)

it really depends what time and where this is happening. if it is going down in the south, where it will be 95 degrees outside and an outdoor reception. khakis and a light button down shirt is appropriate. i assume the wedding is in western NY, but if it is daytime--no suit. night wedding--i'd suit up.

As NT said, if you want play from women, bust out the suit. Otherwise you're very likely to look underdressed, which will severely hamper your game.
