Iron Chef OOT 1/9-1/21
Congrats again to 4-time champ Mrs. Utah and retaking the crown from StevieG in last week's Ricotta Royale. For next week's ingredient, she'd like to do a poll with two ingredients selected by each of last week's contestants. The poll will be open for just one day with the top ingredient being the secret ingredient for use in a app, entree, and optional dessert.

I like garlic and ginger because neither are a primary focus of a dish (like Chicken or Pork), but they can each be an interesting 2nd ingredient. For instance, the first page of a recipe search shows Garlic Bread, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Garlic Shrimp. These are way more varied than if the "main" ingredient was fixed, but have a pretty constant theme. (More so than if it was just "Stuff you eat with a fork.") -Sam |

They may not be the centerpiece of a dish (well, excluding Garlic Festival-esque oddities such as garlic ice cream), but certainly can be a featured performer and would allow for a very wide range of entries. |

Re: Iron Chef OOT 1/9-1/21
Garlic was my choice and I can think off the top of my head of at least a dozen or so dishes with infinite variations where garlic is the star. Garlic is rarely used in the greatest quantity in a dish, but the flavoring is so strong that it is often the featured ingredient. Anyone familiar with Italian cooking just couldn't do without garlic! That said, I actually ended up not voting for it because Mrs. Utah suggested artichokes and I think that would be a greater challenge for me. In the past I've struggled with artichoke accompaniments and even made a post about it once. Anyway, my contributions to the poll were squash and garlic, but my votes were for squash and artichoke. Anything on the poll could make for a fun challenge though, I think.
