This entirely depends on the mattress quality, how much time you spend on the mattress, etc. But, a good rule of thumb is that most mattresses are supposed to last for roughly 10 years (which is why many mattresses have a 10 year warranty). After that, you may see a decrease in support, shape, and overall comfort.

Once again, if you treat your mattress well, it can last longer. For instance, my parents had their for 20 years before they decided to get a new one.

honestly it's slipping my mind. it was either a serta or simmons but it was a jordan's furniture model, whatever that means.

one thing I would recommend is calling 1800MATTRES. every store has a different name for brands/models so it is pretty much impossible to comparison shop, but 1800MATTRES has all of that stuff cross referenced and they'll tell you that model A at store 1 is the same as model Z at store 2. my conversation with them was this:

me: hey I'm at Jordans, here's the model I'm looking at
them: ok, that's a model that serta|simmons only makes for Jordans. the most similar thing we have to that is ABC and XYZ, the difference is blah blah blah, they are $1535 and $1475.
me: really? this one is $1300 at jordans.
them: wow really? that's a super good price. you should take it.

I purchased a Kingsdown plush from Sleepy's about 2 weeks ago. I have back issues and so far the mattress is perfect for me. Of course, I am a 39 year old guy who has needs a softer bed.

We went to the store 4 different times and spent 10-20 minutes on each mattress that we were considering. You aren't going to make the right the decision spending 2-3 minutes on 15 different mattresses. Just go knowing you will be there a while and slowly narrow down the range. Then come back in a couple of days and narrow it further. Finally, come back one final time before deciding.

Just bought a Kingsdown as well, have definitely been pleased with it so far.

The nice thing about it is that they have a test bed/computer system that can determine which bed would be best suited towards you. They have 6 different models I believe.

So you're saying I should go to a store, find a matress I like, and then call 1-800-matress?

I would say go to 2-3 stores and find mattresses you like, and then call them.

the intellibed stores have the sleep number beds and tempurpedics so you can try them all side by side.

there's no question that for some people, tempurpedics are better. one of the things i don't like is they kind of "lock" you in.
