Comcast modem not working with router anymore?
Is there any reason why my cable modem will have working internet when directly plugged into my laptop but won't provide internet when connected to my router?
It used to work before, but now when I try it the "internet connected" light blinks and never connects. I have a Belkin N1 wireless router btw. |

Re: Comcast modem not working with router anymore?
log in to your router from your laptop. You are looking for the section on changing the MAC address for the router.
If there is no setting to CLONE your PC's MAC address, then you'll have to get it manually. Go to start-->run-->Cmd type ipconfig /all Find the network adapter you plug into the cable modem and look at the Physical Address section. It will be 6 blocks of 2 hexadecimal digits. Put that into the MAC address field on the router. This will trick the cable modem into thinking your router is actually your laptop by giving it the same 'fingerprint' as the laptop's network adapter. I was under the impression that cable companies don't care about it anymore, but some must still care. |

Re: Comcast modem not working with router anymore?
I'll give that a shot. What's weird is that I didn't change any settings on my router but the router couldn't connect but the laptop did.
This all started after I started using a program that accepts and sends out a lot of connetions. Would that have any correlation with the disruption of service to my router? Like a mac address ban or something, can they do that? |
