Default .5/1 v. 1/2 at FTP

I have noticed the last few weeks when I check FTP's lobby to sign up for .5/1 that the 1/2 tables are averaging higher players/flop than .5/1. I only play nights, but as an example right now the 4 .5 tables are 25,26,28,32 and the 1/2's are 28,29,33,36,36. Often I can only find 1 or 2 .5/1 table over 30, usually low 30's, but 1/2 will have 5-6 over 30, some in the high 30's.

So the question to anyone who plays both is: Is it possible that 1/2 is easier to beat than .5/1? If they are equal, 1/2 would be better b/c the effect of the rake is lessened, correct?

I would def play 1/2 if I were rolled for it and those numbers are coming up.

I've noticed this too. On some sites the table averages players/flop are 5-15 per cent higher at 1/2 than at 0.5/1.

I think it's because .5/1 is where a lot of people start. And if they're students of the game then they take it seriously which in turn makes the stakes more difficult. All stakes have their share of bad players, but my theory is that all the newish players trying to get started hold each other back and keep the tables tighter, among other things.

That could very well be it. At times, i can't even find a table with over 20 table general vpip.

QFT. I am seeing the same thing. I have been debating mixing those loose 1/2 tables into my sessions.

I am still a bit reluctant, since my first (and last) stab at 1/2 on Party was a disaster. I only played 500 hands and dropped about $80.

Also, while datamining FTP, I see same fishies jumping back and forth through .25/.50, .50/.1 and 1/2 limits. Same goes for sharks.

I also see the low limit games as a cheap emulation of higher stakes play. Lots of people taking it seriously, still a few horrible players. It brings high stakes to you to practice with for cheap (and drops the learning stakes even lower). When you fix your problems in today's $0.5/1, you should be much much more likely to successfully move up in limits than some one who could beat .5/1 a few years ago.

Just a little metagame philosophy I suppose.
