Default 10-20-40 hand from a while ago against corp mike from l@tb

This hand is from like 8 months ago but my friend keeps arguing with me about it. Any comments welcome but if your gonna say fold preflop thx your opinion has been noted please don't bother.

8 handed game was on l@tb now moved its like 130am and there are 2 MAJOR donators as well as the some regulars.

Stacks. We are all fairly deep. I have like 8-9k at least so does mike. Rest of table probably has at least 5k for the most part

Straddle pot not sure if I straddled or limped UTG but at any rate I have 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], tuchman directly to my left makes it 220 (standard for straddle pot in this game that night) 1 donator calls, mike calls out of blind, I call.

Pot ~900 or so

Flop 447 suits don't matter and i don't remember exactly but i think rainbow and no flush gets there at any point.
Check, I lead 800 fold fold mike calls

turn 8 (4 4 7) (pot 2500)
Mike leads for like 1700 I call.

River 7 (8 4 4 7) Pot 5400

Mike bets 2500 i call.

I don't think this is all that interesting. I think there might be a small amount of value shoving river but not really, but he can be very stubborn and make some horrid calls.

How does Mike play?

It's close but shove river looks best.

Mike lead 3/4 of the pot on the turn, which makes me believe his hand improved. I think if his hand didn't improve on the turn, he would have check called like on the flop. Since he led, it makes me believe he has the straight or something like 78. He also might have like 88 here, but oh well if thats the case. I think the river is obv at least a call. Hm the fact he bet 3/4 of the pot on the turn, and only half the pot on the river makes me think he wants a cheap showdown. If he had a 7 or better i think hed put more pressure on. I think his most likely hand is a straight, followed by a worse 4 or maybe a pocket pair turned into a bluff. I think a shove for 3k or so more is good, but you prob aren't losing much with a call. If he makes horrid, heroic calls then give him a chance.

makes sense. good post. i dont see much value in raising, though, unless you think overpairs are a large part of his range AND that he'll call a shove with them. I'd just call.

I think you played it fine. If you raise the river he almost certainly folds everything worse than a straight, and it would be tough for him to even call with a straight. It seems like the times that he calls with the straight are offset by the times that he has 7x.

paired boards are "protected". even mike will play correctly against a river raise here.

I think there is value in a river raise specifically against Mike who can do some really stupid things when he is on tilt. If has has a 4 and you shove, I think he would call 90% of the time or more, but occasionally I think he would fold a chop. At the same time I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him call the extra $3k with a straight.

I think he has a 7 here never given the action fwiw.

I think maybe he could have 74 or 77, and he bets this amount on the river because he thinks hero's range is on the lighter side and/or hero is weak/tight.
