Default FRS/GMRS Two Way Radios

Does anyone have experience with FRS/GMRS radios? They're basically souped-up walkie-talkies that have some range to them. I've read through as much as I could on them and after getting through all the snobby "buy a real radio" sites, I'm still going for the bubble packs rather than dropping $100 a piece on something that will be in the hands of my kids a lot. For under $60 a pair, I've found the Motorola SX700R Talkabouts, which is up from the bottom of the pack, but a little more rugged and with a little more power. (Yes, I know I have to license the GMRS part of them, but let's see how much we use them on the FRS part before I drop the $85 for the license.)

Anyone have any experience with thse things or have any recommendations?

It all really depends on what you are looking for. For general family use, this unit should work well.

If you decide that you need more data applications, I'd look into an unit with MURS.

Can't think of any data applications I would use it for, it's definitely for general family use, including the kids just playing in the back yard or travelling to neighbors, vacation, etc.
