what about keeping your stars account always logged in?

[/ QUOTE ]

What about it?

[/ QUOTE ]

PS wont let you login from anywhere else if your account is already logged in (at home permanently for example).

That way even if they know you're password and login, they cant get in because you are already logged in elsewhere.

I've just made 500 mental guesses as to what Greg's password might have been, in as logical an order as I could come up with

My 500th guess was "Mosquito"; close at all Greg?

I can show my work if anybody is curious about methodology.

100% Stars fault. Glad to see it worked out OK.

They never should have let him use "BBV" as a password. Other reasons pointed out in this thread. Poker site security is embarrassing.

If you haven't read ColdCaller's "preventing hackers" thread it is here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...p;vc=1&nt=6

I also like the idea of the secureID badges as pictured by burningyen in this thread.

[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I don't like it at all. At least not if it's obligatory. I play on at least 10 different sites (being a low-life MTTer ), and would hate to have 10 different secureID thingies sitting on my desk. I think a separate login (preferrably an account number instead of an actual name) from your poker nick is far preferable and in all instances good enough from a security perspective. If you have a keylogger installed on your computer, tough luck. Learn more about security.

Of course, if this were to be something you could choose to have, by all means Stars could go ahead and implement it.

Hi Greg
In Finland a hacker is going to a court accused of fraud because he emptied a couple of poker accounts using e-mail. Let me make an offer: If you reveal the hacked password,I'm going to send $100 to charity of your choice. I believe many other p2p readers are as eager as I to know the PW and send money to charity of your choice, too.

Just throwing this out there.
Let's assume for a second that this isn't Greg Raymer that gets hacked but is Joe Schmo who doesnt have a million people railing him.
If it's not already in place I would hope Stars would implement some system that would red flag "suspicious activity" on any account that immediately forwarded to have a real person take a look.
We don't know for sure obviously how long it could have taken to notice the activity if this isn't Greg- but I would be hard pressed to believe it would have been caught in a similar time frame if this activity took place on an account big enough to matter- but not belonging to a player with his rail base.
There has to be some balance between assigning all blame to a player in the joyriding example- and a complete refund/protection as afforded Greg in this example- especially if the account activity is that suspicious.
Specifically I am talking about an example such as where someone plays say 200NL for months and months and never varies- and is overrolled for it- and suddenly he is "taking shots" at 10-20 one night because of a joyrider.
When the joyriding is way out of line with normal activity- what protection does Stars have for us?
Note: none is not a particularly reassuring answer.

Dids,

GG's name is wsop2005, nothing involving champ or whatever.

and he is a good guy, what are you picking on?

that and answer my question for you in your gym thread i am really curious about your haps in the workout dept.

that is all, J.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's a reason it was wsop2005...

I'm not picking on him so much as all of the people who thought it would be a good idea to back him. Plus the whole user name thing is probably reason enough for me.

[/ QUOTE ]

you act like we all lost our life savings in some horrible multi-million dollar real estate investment scheme

it was like 800 bucks or something, it didnt work out, it was fun to sweat him each event, no one really cares one way or the other (except you obviously, since this happened 2 years ago lol)

As an aside, I think it's very professional and upstanding that Stars security will not tell Greg the hackers' real identity, just like they wouldn't tell any one of us.

[/ QUOTE ]

Different opinion. I feel strongly that AFTER Stars has done a complete investigation and any legal charges brought against him, then his identity should be made available to the poker community. As Greg said he would try to get this thief barred from all online and casino tournaments. That is as it should be.

He is a criminal and needs to be treated as such.
