What I recommend is replying with the key hand you lost and taking the time to talk to someone who was rooting for you.

Dear xxxxx,

I lost a t900K pot with AA<AKs all in preflop which crippled me. I then lost TT<99 all in preflop afterwards which drove me from the tournament. Unfortunately, these things happen and I am just grateful for the experience. And hey, at least I cashed! Thanks for your kind note.
