Re: Don Cheadle beats Phil Ivey, LOL
Simple variance. Eagles said it well, if you come to a poker forum, you ought to udnerstand it. They wouldn't play the matches if it was pre-decided that someone HAD TO win based on superior skills.
With the blind levels at what they are, anyone can compete in this tournament. Variance with this structure will cause someone like Cheadle to be able to win a decent number out of 100 trials versus ANYONE. If you don't like randoms winning/placing in big events, have professional-only tournaments. |

[ QUOTE ] you guys are funny, how many times out of 100 do you think ivey wins vs. cheadle? vs. me? vs. the worst guy in your home game? [/ QUOTE ] I was talking about this with a good pro today. He said 75, I said 60, assuming Cheadle is decent-to-good. [/ QUOTE ] i like your estimate much more than his |

also, LOL at people saying the best player would win nearly 100% of the time if the blinds didn't increase.

Re: Don Cheadle beats Phil Ivey, LOL
Poker should be careful about superstar BS. The game interest people precisely because they can participate and compete at the highest level themselves as opposed to the vicarious thrill of mainstream sports. Poker has a huge chance element that skill chips away at to create small advantages. long live tourists. AND say hell no to proffesional only tournaments. They can never be major events since they are not Opens.
