Default (16) Getting carried away with 88 early

From a week or so ago, so I don't remember any reads. Every once in a while it's cathartic to shed the 2p2 STTF nittiness. How nutty was this?

First, you need to have a good read if you want to get nutty with 88 here. You need to know how aggressive this guy is going to be with overs. Ie, will he fire multiple barrels.

So, that being said. My preferred line here would be c/c the flop and c/r the turn. If he checks turn, I'll probably bet to take it down there b/c of the draws. But, checking with the intention of snapping off a bluff on the river isn't bad. However, if any A/K/Q comes off, you'll have to exit if he shows interest.

Also, preflop was fine.

PF is completely fine. Open folding or folding to the raise would be very bad. It's level 1, you're still deep enough to get value out of sets, blah blah.

As for the postflop stuff...

You're trying to get people to lay down better hands or hands that are pretty good. In general, in a lower buy-in SNG you should try to exercise the exact opposite strategy. That is, exploit your opponents' primary weakness, which is by and large, their inability to fold even marginal hands. Therefore, the lower buy-in strategy should be to wildly value bet your made hands, and stay away from the fancy stuff.

Your line here asks your opponent to make a play that in the aggregate may be a good play, but that is exactly what you cannot expect him to do.

Agry -

You are deep enough to call PF/Flop IMO, but not deep enough to put a raise in to see where you are in the hand. You don't want to bloat the pot and get committed to it, but if you can see a show down cheap, I'd do so.

Folding is fine, but I've been calling the smaller c-bets more often.
