given that this is a multiway pot, is the correct line here to check and then see what kind of action comes and THEN decide how to react?

I check. if you bet, a queen would prolly raise it to protect against the flush draw and all of a sudden the pot is big/probably not multiway anymore/and youre out of position. i think you want the next card cheap and checking is your best chance of getting that, not to mention you dont want to bet out a weaker flush draw.

with 4 other players on the flop i'd check it and see what action comes back to me. if it comes back with a small raise and callers i put in a small reraise to build the pot, if just one raiser and no callers i'll reraise all in especially if it looks like a steal.

I think in a large multiway pot, this is certainly a good way to play if you garner a bunch dead chips along the way. Will you get enough calls before a raise? Another thing I'm not expert on is how many will limp AQ in these spots at the 109s?

Anyhow, if you're going to b/3bAI, what are you leading for here?
If you had a set of 7s, how are you playing the flop here?
