Sports Reporters became unwatchable when Dick Schaap died.

[/ QUOTE ]
Do not agree. Particularly since he was the host and is more or less there to direct traffic and is the least controversial person on the show. I think John Saunders does a good job and the panelists are mostly the same as when Schaap was alive. Except for that fat tub of goo Bill Conlin, good riddance.

When Stu Scott started doing his freestyle poetry

Easily one of my top 10 life-tilt moments. I remember calling my college buddies and just screaming at them to turn on ESPN.

Actually, Stuart Scott wasn't always bad. Him and Eisen were a really really good team.

I used to love Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen.

For me it was when they changed to a more modern looking set, maybe 8 years ago. I used to love how after a game's highlights were over they would show a page of stats for 3 or 4 players for each team and keep that up for 20 seconds or so. Trimming that down to make room for more stories plus the more modern set really ruined the show for me.

Lupica and Albom would defer to Schaap, and he was able to rein them in (especially Lupica) when he became ultra-preachy. Also, his parting shots were consistently of a higher quality than Saunders.

Albom/Ryan/Schaap/Lupica ftw.

FU John Feinstein/Jackie MacMullin/Bill Conlin and his Michael Strahan teeth.

About 4 years ago I pretty much ditched SC and would get all my baseball updates from BBTN. Now BBTN has gotten so bad that I usually stick with the internet. I'm sorry, but when half the program is devoted to "Web Gems" and "Looking at those that went deep" and the other half is devoted to Steve Phillips' (et al) nonsense...it's not good.

To me, SC is a show about the anchors (first and foremost), interspersed with a Yankee highlight, followed by a segment on TO, followed by a segment on Bonds, followed by a segment on Shaq, followed by a tennis highlight, followed by obnoxious graphics....etc. It's )(*#)@&# horrible. Disney would do good to replace Stu Scott with Mickey Mouse and Linda Cohn with a Pink Elephant.

Since I'm ripping on ESPN, I'd like to say how much I dislike Baseball Tonight. Karl Ravech is fine, Kruk is okay in a won't give you any real analysis but is a fat slob and will make you laugh kinda way, Gammons is usually great, but the rest of the guys on the show have always blown.

Harold Reynolds is one of most overrated analysts of recent memory.

Tino Martinez/Steve Phillips/Fernando WTF Vina are/were absolutely terrible.

Vina has actually been surprisingly OK, IMO so far. I probably amn't (is that a word?) listening to what he says so much, but he has a good voice and presents his stuff pretty well. Unlike EY who seems like a nice guy, but needs coaching on how to speak. The good thing about Kruk is he is always out to make Phillips look like a (&*(&ing fool (which isn't hard). Phillips just takes it like a lil' b*tch, too.

Sportscenter early days: 100% highlights and recap of what just happened

Sportscenter 90s: 75% or so highlights and recap, 25% blather

Sportscenter now: 20% what just happened, 30% why it happened and 50% what it all means to the future of sports

I think they're trying to recreate the magic of PTI within sportscenter, when the format and talent they have to work with just doesn't permit it. PTI works mainly because people like to sit down and spend time with the hosts. No one wants to spend any more time with guys like Sean Salisbury or John Clayton than they absolutely have to.
