Why isn\'t there a page 3 in America? not NSFW (yet)
Britain's biggest daily newspaper has a page 3 girl topless every day in full colour- it's probably the main thing people know about the paper.
It's been doing this since the late 70s and is so totally unremarkable I don't even notice it when I read the paper. (I have to read all the tabloids every day) Given the obsession that many posters have for breasts, I was wondering why people thought that there was no US page 3, considering Murdoch owns US papers and it's such a big hit in the UK. So OOT, would you buy a paper with a page 3 girl, why isn't there one in the US, and do you think circulation would go up if they did? Useless without pics? Probably, but I'm at work. With a copy of the sun next to me, open at page 3, but I'd probably be sacked if i got caught looking at topless ladies on the computer. The world is a strange place. |

There's a crappy newspaper([name of city] Sun) in Canada that has a similar thing called the Sunshine girl and it used to be on page 3. It was apparently sexist, so it got moved to the back a couple years ago, and now there is a Sunshine boy too. It is usually just a girl in a bikini or lingerie, never nude. From what I hear(don't read the Sun as it's almost a tabloid, it's that bad) 90% of the girls in it are pretty average at best, if not ugly.

I think it is the prudish attitude lots of Americans have. Germany, when I visited there a year ago, had naked chicks on perfume ads plastered all over the place. Same goes for Prague.
I don't think it is all Americans, though. I think that a majority of mid-westerners and bible-belters would not like it while a majority if New Yorkers could care less. |

It's not like we're talking about the fringe element of society in the UK, and the UK is pretty up tight about sex... What kind of amazes me is how I don't even look at them any more. Partly I don't tend to like the type of women they feature, but after seeing them every day for years, you stop seeing them, somehow. That might just be my work though- It's not like i want to be seen lingering over pictures of breasts in the office... |

ditto for Australia, there's non-porn magazines (well, not intended to be strictly pornographic) with pics of boobies on the front cover, in full view next to other magazines

In the biggest german tabloid (Bild), the girls are even on page one.
Pretty sure it are the purist roots of modern USA that stop them from doing something like this. |
