Default How to get started?

Allright, I am pretty new to poker. I know the game and stuff, but I want to learn more about position, potsize, betsize, stuff like that which are important.

Where do I start? Read some books? watch others play.

what would you advice me =)?

I would suggest reading books as well as playing and posting hands here in the forums. The first step might be deciding what form of poker you want to play and then asking questions from there. The more specific you make your post the better answer you will get I imagine. Good luck and welcome!

welcome.

read any of the 2p2 books for starters. dig through the archives. search out pooh-bah posts, read the FAQ's in the catgory you're interested in and this'll give you plenty of good reading.

enjoy.

Read, read, read, and then usually read some more.

Knowing math is very important in poker, but not the mathematical possibility of 'hitting' your card as much as knowing when to call and when to fold (pot and implied odds). There are tons of great articles online that will get you started and then you can 'graduate' into reading full on books of poker, or do it vica versa of course .

Good luck.

I think Dan Harrington is a good place to start but it isn't completely necessary. If you can just learn the basics and ur disciplined you can beat the lower limits. It depends what your after. I've started with $20 at pp and i'm on 5/10c and i'm upto $410 in a few months. Just learn ABC poker - Tight pre flop, raise ur premium hands and look to be aggressive on the flop(sensible aggression). For me, the flop is the difficult aspect and takes real practise.

Like most buddying new players i was having visions of playing $1-$2 and making a killing. But i realise that isn't a realistic possibility now. So i mostly play for fun and enjoyment. Basically, where i don't want to be reloading every other month with my own cash.
