Default foxwoods new room

just got back from a day at da woods, first time in the new room. here's my 2 cents:

1 - tables/ chairs: big improvement
2 - auto shufflers: a plus, good for slow dealers
3 - no food at the tables: great, no slobs getting mayo on the cards
4 - noise level: it seemed to be much less loud than the old room
5 - drink service: same. i heard it was better, but didn't see a difference. btw - i wouldn't get a bloody mary from there again...it was disgusting.

as you can tell, i think the new room is a big improvement.

as far as poker, i played 1-2 NL for about 7 hrs and walked away up $350. i witnessed some of the most RIDONKULOUS poker of my life, and coulda left there up more like $750 if i got a few less suckouts.

tried to start a 5-10 HOE but no takers...not even 1. there wasn't even a 5-10 O8B table going.

i am the only person who likes to play mixed games that doesn't have $5,000 to play $100-$200?

On that note, is there EVER going to be a PL Omaha game there?

Anyway - I'll stop ranting now, I just get bored of holdem.

Come try to get those going in Vegas sometime. These games pop up from time to time (low limit) and last a couple weeks. Mostly dealers from other casinos playing and the games die out once the "novelty" wears off in a short time. Usually they find out that there are no fish in the game and its just not worth it when there is a JUICY 2/4 limit holdem game going!!! (last part is a joke)

yeah, i hear ya. i realize that even if i got a table going it wouldn't be a fish-magnet, but i play poker first for fun and second for money (although if i wasn't making money i wouldn't play!)

don't mess with 2-4 - that's where it's at! seriously though, no offense to anyone out there, but i don't know who in their right mind would wanna play the 2-4 torture game unless you've been playing poker for less that 3 days.

You really should go from room to room out here sometime and see who "really wants to play 2/4", LOL. EVERYONE!!! Unless they want to play 15/30+ that is. Even most of the locals are all sitting at 2/4 because its sociable and they can't lose a lot of money. Yet, people are so scared of "locals". Why?

When I was in CT, most of the traffic is drive in from a short distance, yet you never here "dont play with the locals" or "locals are the toughest" yada yada crap. EVERYONE is locals, ROFLMAO.

i think all 2-4 games are soft by definition...but i still don't get why people who know how to play poker (i mean really know how to play) will subject themselves to it. At least play 4-8 or 5-10 where a raise might actually do something and you might win a couple bills in a session.

when i'm at foxwoods i just try to double up off of any 20-something with a red sox hat who thinks he's freakin phil ivey because he watched 1 episode of world poker tour. working pretty good so far.

Here's a good example of these "phil ivey wanna-be" types from today - from my lame poker blog..

another day at da woods - fun w/ AA

Just got back from another day at Foxwoods - had alotta fun and am $350 richer.

Here's one interesting hand that came up:

New guy sits down with $100 - he wins a few bucks on his first hand, raised preflop after some limpers, no callers.

Next hand - there's some limpers, guy raises to $10, it gets to me on the button and I look down at AA and raise to $20 to narrow the action. Guy calls and it's heads up, about $40 in the pot.

Flop is uneventful. J high and some rags, but 2 cards were suited. Guy bets out $25.

I double his bet to $50, hoping to reel him in, and he immediately goes all in.

Action is only something like $35 more to me, and there is over $140 in the pot. I call of course.

Turn comes, then the river. I wanted to see what he had so I waited for him to turn over his hand. I was pretty surprised when he tabled AK! I scooped the pot and he got up and left. Thanks guy!

AK is a good hand, but when you are aggressive with it before the flop and after the flop, don't hit anything, and get re-reraised BOTH times, you can be pretty sure that it's no good anymore (or in this case, it was never good).

And - if someone raises your $25 bet to $50, there is absolutely no reason to re-raise all in for $35 more on a bluff...its just bad poker. Your raise isn't big enough to get anyone out, unless they were bluffing in the first place. And they might call you anyway!

i really like the new poker room, but many of the people who are playing in the games im playing in think the new poker room is horrible. i think theyre just miserable people who would never be happy no matter what theyre given.

pluses:

1) more room/quieter
2) the cafe has amazing, amazing food
3) waiting lists are not nearly as long because they have more tables to open new games
4) its easier to get a hold of a floor manager and lock up a seat when youre called
5) sitngos are pretty cool
6) theyre installing a manual waitlist enterer which will make it much easier to put your name on lists. you just swipe your wampum card and put your name on the lists and its done. sweet.

negatives:

1) the new dealers suck
2) the cashier's cant do basic math (was it always like this?)
3) they dont have enough tvs spread out to see waitlists/watch the game
4) no food at the table; i personally like to eat at the table but i think the rule is fine for obvious reasons. really a neutral imo.

One and four on your negatives are kind of neutral, the bad dealers will get better, and the food is pretty neutral.

I don't really find the room to be all that much quieter. Must be the time of day. The heat/cold is still horrible, some times you are absolutely freezing other times you are sweating like crazy.

The LCDs on the table *still* don't work and it's still crowded to walk through.

I still like the new room better. New outfits = +++
