Default I\'m bored too...ask ScottieK about the banking industry

It's a Friday, and I'm relatively bored at the office. So while I'm bored at the bank, you can ask me about the banking industry (specifically, business loans and financial analysis...but I can probably handle questions about credit scores, consumer accounts, etc.) If I don't know, I'll ask someone. I know it's not drugs or porn, but what the hell.

I am 20, should I get a credit card so I can just charge some stuff to work on my credit rating?

Scottie,

Thanks for offering your services. What do you think is the best method for ripping off a bank?

Establishing a good credit history will improve your credit score, which will help you in future purchases (car, apartment, home, etc.) If this is your first credit card, I suggest getting one with a low APR and limit, and charging something minimal but regular on it (like gas purchases.) Pay it off in full every month. It's also good to have in case of emergency.

EDIT: I forgot to add....paying all your bills on time also improves your credit score. If you aren't doing this already, then adding on a credit card may not be a good idea.

Seriously, almost all hold-up men get caught. Besides cameras, security, dye packs, marked bills, and whatever else we've got, robbing a bank is plain stupid.

As far as "cheating the system," I think that would be bank specific. Check kiters also get caught pretty regularly.

Come on Scottie. That's lame stuff. We all know that banks get ripped off all the time by conmen. Give us some juicy bits.

Why can't you bitches work some hours that working people can get to? People with jobs are the ones with money - be open when we're not working.

ScottieK,

I hate my current bank (BofA) for personal (retail banking) and professional reasons (not retail banking). Who should I switch to?

Does your credit score go down, if you request a credit report?

LOL I do dig banker's hours. Even though I work 8 to 5, and the branch is open 9 to 4, I rarely work overtime. I'm not a teller or branch manager, but I do know that more banks around here are keeping weekend hours. Our branch stays open until 6pm on Fridays so workers can cash their paychecks after work.

I suspect most of this has to do with opening and closing procedures, like counting down drawers and safety precautions.

FWIW, I make all my check deposits at an ATM instead of waiting in line at the teller. I can make a deposit at any time this way. Never deposit cash with this method though, you're just asking for trouble.
