I am trying to find some information about Vicksburg poker. If anyone plays there please post here or send me an IM.

The only poker room is at the Horizon. One or two tables of 3/6 limit is the norm. Occasionally 2/5 NL goes but you can't count on it. I think Omaha goes rarely. They do have a couple of tournaments that run, but I don't know the details. Dealers pool tokes, typical bbj, a couple of promos, etc.

There are rumors that Ameristar will open a room in the next few months. If so, being a "higher end" casino compared to Horizon, they may get more action.

PM me if you need specific information. If I don't know the answers, I can put you in touch with someone who can (if he doesn't see this thread.)

I play there- seems like a stagnant pool to me. Without a doubt, there are some players in the market, but despite valiant attempts at promos by the graveyard shift manager, the existing card room is doing a poor job of serving them. The best thing to happen recently is the addition of mummified cookies to their hot dog bar.

A whole heaping helping of players are gravitating towards Pearl River Resorts' Poker Room at Golden Moon instead. Not only do you stand better chance of not being shot or stabbed, but the cancer risk due to second hand smoke is reduced by about a 1000%. The meal choices available are also a consideration for locals. For comparable play, at PRR you get a fairly nice buffet meal or deli sandwich. At Horizon in Vicksburg, you get a glorious meal rivaling any public school in the lower Delta with your choice of at least three kinds of turnip greens and either hot or cold catfish.

In Vicksburg you have to worry about if your chips will still be there after the mile long hike to the restroom. About all you have to worry about at PRR is the occasional 53 card deck and lack of State gaming regulations.

I've only been to the Horizon's there, it is a rat hole. Mostly I travel to Bossier City to play at the Horseshoe, it's one of the nicer rooms in our area.

I used to play at Horizons all the time when i first started playing limit poker about 6 years ago, but I usually now go over to Shreveport and play 1/3NL at the Horseshoe, b/c Horizons is pretty much a crap hole that hardly spreads any NL games.

I said it was a stagnant pool, but calling Horizon's Poker room a rat hole and crap hole is a little harsh. I can see why you guys would say that, finding the atmosphere lacking in elegance and the selection of games being so poor. As it is the only game in town, I've tried to support it, but they could do so much more.

Vicksburg used to have a lot more Poker action before management botched things up by closing the rooms at the Isle and Ameristar just in time to miss out on the WPT fueled Poker boom. I think there are also a lot of players that are interested in trying NL but are scared off by stacks at the smallest game available in the market, 2/5 NL. If they could try it at 1/2 (or 1/3) then I think we'd gradually see a whole new crop of NL players emerge.

Supposedly, there are some new Poker rooms coming with the building of one or two casinos in the area, so maybe you Louisiana guys will have something worth coming back for soon.

I think it will be sooner rather than later.

I called the Horizon's Casino a month or so ago and they said that they are spreading $1/2NL pretty often now.

Have you been to the HS-BC? I'll drive the extra 20min to go over there any day vs Horizons. IMO, HS-BC is one of the nicest/best cardrooms in the Southeast.

Have you been to Marksville, LA? If so, what's that $2/5 game like? I met the PR manager at a charity event but haven't been down there yet to check it out.

I haven't played in any LA cardrooms so far, just MS. Horseshoe sounds like a nice one- I'll try and check it out. You mention to avoid Horizon you have to drive an extra 20 minutes to the next closest cardroom - funny thing that's what central MS players have to do too, but in a different direction- North East to Pearl River's Golden Moon.
