Yeah, it has to be something more elaborate and more vengeful than just waiting to catch one guy with one thing and telling him to give it back.

[/ QUOTE ]

If he/she truly does have it tonight, there won't be any "telling to give it back." I will take it. Period.

Minor detail - how will you tell it's yours without asking? Are you going to grab any iPod you see and check the back?

This plan is going to fail miserably. You'll end up wasting an entire night watching someone vacuum without an ipod, or they'll see you spying right away and wonder wtf you're doing there.

Lesson learned, don't leave your ipod at work overnight. It's gone man.

No security cameras, and I'm willing to waste a night on the off chance I get my iPod back. I'm not going to act all sneaky. I might actually do some work to kill time.

Regardless, if I do forget something once in a blue moon, it shouldn't automatically go to the cleaning crew.

You're right that leaving != donating. But lesson learned.

As to the sting operation, I gotta think the reason they took the ipod was to sell it, not to entertain themselves. It can't hurt to get some work done tonight, but they would probably rather have a walkman and $50 than an ipod.

Plus, anybody stupid enough to wear an ipod to the place they stole it will take longer than 24 hours to figure-out how to put their music on it. edit: Although, I guess they could be rocking out to whatever you had on there. What kind of music do you listen to?

I don't know what kind of resources you have at your disposal but retrieval is not enough.

I recommend a sting operation, and get law enforcement involved.

A friend recommended at least filing a police report. Would that help if I find it at a pawn shop?
