On ESPN tonight, Lou Holtz said that if Notre Dame loses to Michigan on Saturday, they'd have a tough time making a BCS Bowl. I'm not making that up. Look in the Week 3 college football thread for confirmation.

ya it sounds idiotic but hes right.

Similarly, if LSU goes undefeated, they have a great chance at a BCS bowl game.

fwiw i don't think they're supposed to be handicapping these events. it's pretty clear they're taking a fan's point of view on these events.

[/ QUOTE ]

Even if that is the case, Kornheiser(sp?) isn't off by that much (relatively speaking of course). 3.5 point fav wins about 65% off the top of my head.

I tried to post a photo of Yahoo's sports page which says "The impact of Greg Oden's injury will be felt throughout the entire NBA as well as Portland but photobucket is down right now for some reason, so you all just get the synopsis.

ESPN was on in the poker room, with the sound off, but while discussing the upcoming ND/Mich game, the graphic on the bottom of the screen said:

ND/MICH: THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME BETWEEN NON-RANKED TEAMS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY

Now I know that ESPN is in the hype business, but they outdid themselves with that one.

did ESPN really say that 'most important game between non-ranked teams' crap?

Wow.

Just when I thought the bashing is way too much and out of hand they end up doing something so ridiculous that it makes me thing there isn't nearly enough bashing of them.

No self-respecting announcer or organization would ever say this.

In other news: I think some of the things posted already really aren't THAT stupid.
Not that some guys aren't pretty dumb nor is it that hard a freaking job just to talk about sports and have SOME kind of a clue...but when guys are on the air that much there's bound to be some slip-ups or just some plain-old dumb things said.
I would be scared to death for you guys to listen to me when I was a broadcast or if I ever get back into broadcasting again. I said some pretty dumb stuff daily I think....and still do around here I guess.

Regarding Joe's "grander scheme of things"...it might be one of the few times I partly agree with him.
TEX scores 30 on BAL. Then if they lose 4-2, 5-3, 7-2 and 5-1 they stilll have a + run-diff. I'm not quite as impressed by the overall run-diff or win-projection type stats as maybe I should be.

It's about winning it on the field and some runs really are more valuable than others.

Bob, run differential over a season is obviously different than run differential over a 5 game series where they score 30 in one game. Come on now.
