Hmm I usually check the flop for pot control and wait to make a bet later in the hand because it looks more like a bluff that way.

Imho flop check big mistake on that kind of board. The call on the river is imho as close to horror as it gets. Seriously u ain't beating anything here. For me to even consider calling this river there must been a long history of villian firing scardy boards when sensing weakness.

I feel like when we bet here we often fold out hands we want in like TT-KK which we can get value from later on the turn or river possibly.

Your question is pretty simplistic but I'm having trouble answering it because you present a good concise point. There's only a few hands beating us and we probably shouldn't be that worried because he checked to us.
